Black Gold / River Run
Black Gold is one of our most limited and highly sought-after beers, and consistently ranks as one of the top rated beers in Wisconsin. Every year’s release happens in conjunction with The River Run, which starts and ends at the brewery in Amherst. Bottles of this bourbon barrel-aged Imperial Stout get released at the brewery every October, with every year’s batch being a different recipe than the last. Here’s what you can expect for our 2025 release on October 11th.

Imperial Stout Aged in Bourbon Barrels
Black Gold is a rich, complex imperial stout, aged to perfection in bourbon barrels. Pouring deep black with a velvety texture, it offers aromas of dark chocolate, roasted coffee, and vanilla, with hints of oak. The flavor is a decadent mix of bittersweet chocolate, espresso, and caramel, rounded out by the warmth of bourbon and a smooth, lingering finish. Ideal for slow sipping, Black Gold is a luxurious stout that showcases the art of barrel aging.

Join us on Saturday, October 11th, 2025 for our annual fundraiser that includes both a 5-Mile Course (timed) and a 2-Mile Course (untimed). All funds raised directly benefit the Jensen Community Center in Amherst, Wisconsin. We welcome runners and walkers of all abilities to join us for a fun run that showcases the heart of Amherst.
Registration entitles participants on race day to a commemorative t-shirt, a commemorative can of River Run beer to take with you home, and the option to purchase a bottle of the limited and highly sought-after Central Waters Black Gold. Pre-registration is required.
The River Run 5-Mile Course: This takes off and concludes at Central Waters Brewing Co. It is comprised of a winding course through the heart of our downtown as well as a limestone-chipped segment of the Tomorrow River Trail. You will run along the Tomorrow River before heading back toward the brewery. The course is NOT closed to traffic, so runners and walkers must be alert and aware of vehicles.
The River Run 2-Mile Course: This takes off and concludes at Central Waters Brewing Co. It is comprised of a small tour through our downtown, while crossing over the Tomorrow River. The course is NOT closed to traffic, so runners and walkers must be alert and aware of vehicles.
Kids Falcon Fun Run: This is held in conjunction with the annual River Run, to help fund the Jensen Community Center. The Falcon Fun Run is a 1/2 K race that starts and ends at Central Waters Brewing Co in Amherst. The race is open to kids ages 5-10 and a small fee to enter. All Falcon Fun Run participants will receive a SPECIAL PRIZE. Registration OPENS March 1st, so have mom or dad sign you up when they do! There are no registrations the day of the race.
